RECENT PROJECTS
Sustainability Coordinator- I worked with all departments to create a Sustainability Policy for the school that includes sections on: Environmentally Preferable Purchasing, Green Cleaning, Integrated Pest Management, & Food Procurement. I have worked to create position papers on topics like: electric versus gas in cooking and greenhouse gases. I am also serving as LEED AP and overall assistant to the School during the design& construction of their new Health, Wellness& Nutrition Center
LEED AP- Dogtopia is a family-owned franchise still in process of construction that brought me in to help them consider their environmental options and it's marketability in addition to lifetime cost savings. I reviewed the Franchise requirements, and made substitution suggestions where it seemed necessary to align with the owner's ambitions. I helped the owner find needed contractors and am working with her to get the space certified to LEED Silver, Commercial Interiors.
Intern- As an undergraduate at UVM, I interned for 3 semesters on the Aiken Center Renovation project. Students formed interest groups each semester, I was a student leader for two of them. 1 semester I studied the viability of each LEED point for the project, seeing what we could possibly earn- & what we should attempt. The 2nd sem. , we explored alternative and creative ways to power the building- suggesting options from hydropower to biomass. The 3rd sem. I worked on a vermicompost experiment
Intern/Installer-This was an incredible experience that showed many of us how alternative energy can be so valuable out of necessity- not just desire. In the Caribbean, oil and petrol are extremely expensive, and many live in poverty. This 2 week long project in Dominica gave me hands on experience with non-grid tied Solar Installation. We installed a system on a school and educated the students about how the system worked.
In 2008, I spent 1 month In Senegal alongside Sengalese university students, working to define Sustainability in that community. Then we traveled together out to remote villages and met with townspeople to hear about small, sustainable projects that each would like to work on. We translated and wrote out the applications for them, then presented them to the GENSEN Board for funding awards.
